15/8/13 – It was a little noisy last night with the large road trains but we have had a lot worst. We didn’t know when we hit the road just after 8am that we would be pushing for home. Our 8mth old grandson is very sick and is being taken to hospital as a precaution. And our friend had a mild heart attack last night so our place is home with our loved ones. It means we will be doing the biggest travel day so far, in fact ever at over 1100 km at least we will have our comfy large bed waiting for us at home 🙂
Our grandson Hayden, photo taken just before we left on our trip, he is such a cutie 🙂
It’s been a great trip, we loved doing the OTT and are already talking about the next time we go up there wanting to have more time to stay at some of the terrific camping areas at the creek crossing and watch the fun as others do the crossings. We loved Elliot Falls and would defiantly stay there again. We would most likely not go any further than the Jardine River next time but hey that’s a few more years off yet.
Next big trip we will be planning on is an 8 week trip to the Kimberly’s 🙂 next year with lots of long weekend trips.
There is about 50 km of road works south of Charters Towers, with stop and go men and traffic lights, we were stopped at all of them. Then still in the 80km road works limit a road train got fed up of sticking to the speed limit and passed us, a van and another trailer in front, crazy. We then had to pull off the road as a 10m wide load was coming from the other direction. And we had a 4 carriage road train coming towards us on a bridge with his carriages swaying, freaky site, been an eventful 100km so far.
Nearly 1200 km’s later and very very tired we made it home. Grandson has just left hospital and is on his way home. We will see him tomorrow, for now our comfy bed is calling us.
