Spalding Junction Rest Area – F, B, N, M, D. A basic pull off the road 9km N of Burra. Trucks use this, and pull in late at night. Noisy place. Rating - 1
Day 20 – 27th April
Wow what a day. We woke early for our 8am flight over Lake Eyre; it was a beautiful sunny day, blue skies, and no wind. We were booked in for a 1hr flight, we were waiting out the front of Wright Air with some of the other passengers doing different flights, we were the only … Continue reading Day 20 – 27th April
SA – Leigh Creek Junction
Leigh Creek Junction – F, B, M, BR, D. This was hard to find at night, we didn’t have a GPS that had co-ordinates at the time. It’s right on the of the road to turn into Leigh Creek, few trees, just a pull off. Rating -1.5
Day 19 – 26th April
We had a nice quiet night last night all by ourselves. We drove the 100km straight into William Creek as there wasn’t anything to see on the way. SA – Oodnadatta Track
Oodnadatta Track – F, OR, D. Awesome nothing there but wide open spaces. We loved the trip down the track. There are a few places marked for camping but you can pretty well pull off any where, which is what we did here, talk about big sky country. Rating – 6
SA – Oodnadatta Track 2
Oodnadatta Track 2 – F, OR, D. Another one of the awesome places you can pull off on the track after a big day looking around at all the ruins. Fantastic to watch the setting sun, with no one else to bother us as we enjoy the beauty of the place. Rating – 5
SA – Mt Dutton Siding
Mt Dutton Siding – F, OR, D. 43km S of Oodnadatta on the Oodnadatta Track. Some of the old ruins that can be found on the track. There is a lot history on the track and plenty of ruins to show the existence of man in this harsh land. Rating – 5
Day 18 – 25th April
We do the fly swipe here, we do the fly swipe there, we do the fly swipe here and then we sweep them all up. You can get quiet a tune going. Then in the car we have to avoid the couple of dozen or so of flies on each of us as we get … Continue reading Day 18 – 25th April
SA – Peake Creek
Peake Creek – F, OR, D. This is about 15km off the Oodnadatta Track, over some rough land. We unhooked the van and didn’t take it in, just went for a look. There were some people camping there, with all the flies, not a big camping area, best for car based camping. Would be a … Continue reading SA – Peake Creek
Day 17 – 24th April
One of the nice things about travelling is being able to have a chat to fellow travellers; we had some people from Melbourne and a guy from another country at the camp spot with us last night. It was nice chatting and hearing about their travels until the wind and the cold got to us … Continue reading Day 17 – 24th April
