Friday 10th – We set off early heading for Mataranka, had a quick lunch before going for a dip in the hot pools. Bitter Springs is 3km from the town area and is a lovely 32 degrees. There springs are free, with parking for trailers and caravans. It’s only a short walk from the car park to the springs. There is a current that drifts you down the creek down to the third set of steps where you can get out and walk the short walk back up, jump back in and drift down again. We had our noodles with our thongs slipped over the edges so we could wear them back up.
We pulled ourselves out of the lovely warm water and continues heading north. We filled up at Katherine $1.54 cheaper than Alice and bought a Top End map to cover this area. We plan to stop in at Katherine Gorge on the way back down.
All the designated rest areas are pretty full with caravans by 3.30 local time. We were warned it was like this up north. Too crowded for us, we found another pull off spot, more private and hidden from passing traffic about 20kms out of Pine Creek.
